What to expect

When you reach out to Teen Line, you’ll connect with another teen who’s trained to listen and support you with empathy and care. Many people who contact us are opening up for the first time—we’ll meet you where you are, at your own pace.
We don’t tell you what to do. We’re here to help you figure things out, one step at a time.

Who will I talk to?

You’ll be connected to one of our trained teen volunteers—high school students from Los Angeles who have completed over 100 hours of professional training in active listening, mental health, and crisis response.

What can I talk about?

Anything you’re going through. The most common reasons teens reach out include:

  • Relationships with family, friends, or partners
  • Stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Suicidal thoughts or feelings
  • Loneliness, bullying, or identity questions
  • Problems at school or at home

Is it really confidential?

Yes, for the most part. We’ll never share personal details like your name, sexuality, or gender identity. At the start of your call or text, we might ask a few basic questions to help us understand who we’re reaching and how we can improve our services.

If we think you’re in immediate danger or someone is hurting you, we may need to get help from others to keep you safe.

If we involve outside help, the motive is never money-related. It’s solely to keep you or someone else safe. Teen Line doesn’t benefit financially in any way.

We don’t tell you what to do. We’re here to help you figure things out, one step at a time.

Not ready to talk?

That’s okay. If you’re not ready to reach out just yet, you can explore our Resources for more information.
