Martin Frank

Martin J. Frank, ASA, MAAA, FCA, is a civic activist and philanthropist whose professional background spans several careers as an actuary, a global management consulting firm executive, a bank director, a film producer and a mathematics teacher. He joined Didi Hirsch’s Board in 2003 and served as Chair from 2010 to 2012, and retired from the board in 2020.

Frank, who served six years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves’ 77th Infantry Division, worked as an actuary for the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, then an actuarial consultant to the United Automobile Workers in Detroit before joining Towers Perrin in 1969. The global professional service firm helps organizations optimize performance through effective people, risk and financial management.

Frank served as Towers Perrin’s Managing Principal in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, and was elected to the company’s Board of Directors in 1983. He counseled corporations on actuarial, compensation, employee benefits and collective bargaining issues before retiring in 1992.

He spent the next decade as Director of Pacific Crest Bank, where he chaired the Compensation Committee and served on the Audit Committee. He also chaired Moonshadow Entertainment, a film production company, and was executive producer of two feature films, Friends & Enemies in 1993 and Cadillac in 1997. Both won prizes at international film festivals.

Frank earned a BA in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and attended the Executive Program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in 1985. He also participated in a leadership program at Yale University’s School of Organization and Management.

From 2003 to 2019, he was a volunteer Mathematics teacher at the Los Angeles Leadership Academy, a Charter Elementary, Middle and Senior High School in the Lincoln Heights area of Los Angeles, and served on its Board and Executive Committee. He currently serves on the Academy’s Foundation Board. He served on the Beverly Hills Unified School District’s Finance Committee from 2012 to 2014. He also served on the Jonathan Club’s Board of Directors and was a former Board Vice-Chair for the United Way.

Frank lives in Beverly Hills with his wife Linda, a former Suicide Crisis line volunteer. They have two children and three grandchildren.
