Recovery and support for our most vulnerable
Project 50 is a residential substance use treatment program for people experiencing homelessness in downtown Los Angeles.
What began in 2007 as a pilot project to house the 50 most medically vulnerable unhoused individuals has since grown into a long-standing, county-funded program. Today, Project 50 provides safe housing and wraparound care for up to 75 residents. Didi Hirsch is one of several service providers supporting this program—we do not oversee admissions, but we do provide direct substance use counseling to about half of all residents and collaborate closely with the full care team.
Comprehensive, on-site care
At Project 50, residents are supported by a multidisciplinary care team that provides:
- Housing support with safe, stable living arrangements
- Substance use counseling, rooted in harm reduction and motivational interviewing
- Mental health services tailored to individual needs
- Medical care access coordinated with local providers
- Case management and benefits assistance to navigate Medi-Cal, housing, and other resources
This all-in-one model ensures residents don’t have to navigate fragmented systems on their own.
