Help for people with depression or anxiety

Telemundo / December 18, 2022

Anxiety and depression is a social problem that affects many young people and adults today, but there is help for those people, just by making a call.

It is a problem that a large number of people go through, especially at Christmas and New Year, since there are many who are far from their loved ones.

“Well, just like in our body that we have to exercise, so does our mental health,” said Karla Zenteno, coordinator of the program.

And it is that according to information from some mental health help centers, the problem of depression and anxiety has increased in recent months in Orange and Los Angeles counties, especially after the pandemic.

“When a person is having problems and we can’t get out of our body in a healthy way, and then depression often comes,” Zenteno said.

The time when more cases of depression and even self-harm attempts are reported is during the Christmas and New Year holidays, since many people tend to feel alone.

“It is very important to recognize that our relatives often start with small statements and speak differently, like I don’t want to wake up anymore, I just want to sleep, or they start to walk away,” said Zenteno.

And for those people facing symptoms of mental health problems, there is a help center just by dialing 988.

“We have highly trained and qualified counselors to help anyone who has a friend or family member who may be going through a difficult time,” Zenteno said.

Remember that depression and anxiety attack children, young people and older people who may just need someone to talk to and make them reflect.

“Young people and adults between the ages of 30 and 40 are also experiencing depression and anti-aging and this does not discriminate, there may even be thoughts of suicide and it can happen to anyone,” said Zenteno.

So help exists and it can make a difference in mental health among the people we love.

This service is free of charge and is available to everyone regardless of their immigration status.
