Simi Valley Acorn, July 2026

Caltrans announced the completion of the SR-118 Arroyo Simi Safety Barrier Project, which added more than 6,400 linear feet of fencing along both the northbound and southbound sides of the approximately half-mile bridge on July 15.

The structure, often referred to by locals as “the suicide bridge,” also has bilingual suicide prevention signage along its inner walls that were placed in 2018 as an earlier prevention measure.

Caltrans worked with the California Highway Patrol, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, mental health professionals, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, the Ventura County Transportation Commission and local advocates to develop the project.
