Mental Health Is Health Month

Mental Health Is Health was a month-long campaign during May 2022 that brought attention to mental health parity and equity needs, especially of children, adolescents and young adults. The campaign’s goal was to generate awareness of suicide prevention, prioritize mental well-being, and provide access to information for people who need help. On Friday, April 29, 2022, the City of Los Angeles and Councilmember Nithya Raman proclaimed May as Mental Health is Health Month

Alive Together 2021

The inaugural Alive Together: Uniting to Prevent Suicide was held on November 14, 2021 to raise global awareness and support for Didi Hirsch’s field-defining Suicide Prevention Center. Teams gathered in Los Angeles at Exposition Park and virtually – in neighborhoods around the world – to walk 2,160 steps (about 1 mile) for the 2,160 people lost globally to suicide each day. Mental Health Is Health Experience

The Mental Health Is Health experience live-streamed Wednesday, May 26, 2021 as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. It conveyed the theme of our focus of work—ensuring that mental health and physical health must be treated equally. This means equal access to and payment of healthcare whether someone has asthma or ADHD, diabetes or depression, breast cancer or bipolar disorder.

Alive and Running 5K for Suicide Prevention

For over 20 years, Alive & Running was an uplifting, life-affirming event that remembers loved ones lost to suicide while raising funds and awareness for the Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center. Our 22nd Alive & Running 5K for Suicide Prevention in September 2020 was a virtual event that raised $448,000 for our lifesaving suicide prevention services.

Erasing the Stigma Awards

Over 25 years ago, Didi Hirsch launched a movement to erase the stigma of mental illness by hosting an annual event that recognized those with the courage to speak about their personal mental health challenges. Today, people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences talk openly about mental health – demonstrating the great strides made to erase the interpersonal stigma of mental illness.
