Didi Hirsch CEO Lyn Morris, LMFT, was among the speakers invited to present at Mind Matters: Accessing Resources for Mental Wellbeing – a panel discussion hosted by Academy Gold Rising, a program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts. The panel addressed the unique stressors and pressures faced by individuals working in the film industry and strategies to promote well-being.

The 8th annual Academy Gold Rising Mental Health Panel was held at Samuel Goldwyn Theater and gathered mental health leaders and activists to discuss resources available to film industry professionals.

Academy Chief Membership, Impact, and Industry Officer, Meredith Shae, welcomed the audience with a message of urgency:

“Post-pandemic, two strikes – mental health is needed more than ever in our industry and our community at large, and mental health and wellbeing is not something the film industry is known for,” Shae explained. “This is to remind everyone that despite the stage of your career, whether you have worked for 50 years or five, it’s always okay to ask for help.”

Morris echoed the sentiment and encouraged the audience to seek and provide help when needed.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out for support, there’s a lot of people struggling with mental health issues right now. Don’t be afraid to offer support to somebody else as well,” Morris said.

She sympathized with Gen Z professionals experiencing anxiety, depression, and loneliness growing up in a time that is unprecedented. She urged professionals to find purpose away from their work identity.

“You want to make sure you spend as much time nurturing your personal life as you do your professional life,” Morris said. “And find a space everyday to be grateful for something.”
