Leading suicide prevention since 1958
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, in crisis, or just need someone to talk to, 988 is here for you. Call, text, or chat 24/7 to connect with a trained counselor for free, confidential support. As a key partner in the 988 network, Didi Hirsch provides critical care to people in distress—helping individuals feel heard, supported, and never alone.
Teen Line provides free, confidential peer-to-peer support for youth. Teens in crisis can connect with trained teen counselors by phone, text, or email to talk about what they’re going through. The program helps reduce isolation, promote coping skills, and connect youth with the support they need—offering understanding from someone their own age.
Our providers are highly-trained professionals who specialize in suicide prevention and crisis intervention services. We offer support for individuals affected by suicide, including those who have survived a suicide attempt, lost a loved one, or are caregivers, health care workers, or first responders.
Loss support groups are available nationwide, and survivors of suicide attempts groups are available for residents in California. For those who need more one-on-one care, our licensed clinicians provide short-term individual and family therapy to help people process grief, build resilience, and stay safe.
We also partner directly with hospitals, emergency departments, and crisis units to support patients after a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis. This referral process connects individuals to our therapy and follow-up services using evidence-based care.
Recovering from a disaster, like the Southern California Wildfires, can be overwhelming, and you don’t have to face it alone. Our team of crisis mental health experts provides free, trauma-informed mental health services designed to support healing at every stage of disaster recovery.
Services include individual therapy, support groups, wellness workshops, and community-based resources for children, teens, adults, caregivers, first responders, and others affected by disasters.
Our suicide prevention trainings are tailored for a wide range of audiences, including health care providers, first responders, clinicians, educators, and community members.
Whether you’re a therapist, law enforcement officer, or simply someone who wants to know how to help, our programs provide practical tools to recognize warning signs, respond with care, and save lives.

The Suicide Prevention Center is a trusted place to turn to in moments of crisis, and beyond. We’re the nation’s first suicide prevention center, delivering crisis care, therapy, and training for over 60 years.
Since 1958, we’ve been here for people navigating suicidal thoughts, loss, attempts, and mental health struggles. Our team has trained over 175,000 individuals, supported thousands of callers and families, and helped shape the way suicide prevention works across the country.
If you or someone you know is in a mental health or suicidal crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat via 988lifeline.org.
