Short-term intensive care
Didi Hirsch’s residential programs provide 24/7, structured care for individuals navigating serious mental health or substance use challenges. In these healing environments, clients receive round-the-clock support from experienced professionals, along with personalized treatment plans that promote safety, recovery, and long-term stability. Whether someone is in crisis or transitioning from a hospital stay, our residential services offer a path toward hope and wellness.

At Excelsior House in Inglewood, we provide short-term residential care for adults in crisis. Our 28-day program offers a safe, structured space for people living with serious mental illness, including those with co-occurring disorders. Some come to us from hospitals to continue their stabilization, while others are referred from outpatient programs to help avoid hospitalization. With room for 14 residents, we offer a home-like setting where people can focus on healing and regain a sense of stability and purpose. Our team works closely with each resident to support self-care, strengthen coping skills, stabilize medications, and connect them to services in the community before they leave our care. Learn More

Since 1979, Via Avanta — which means “the way forward” in Spanish — has provided a safe and supportive space for women facing substance use, mental health challenges, domestic violence, and poverty. One of the first programs in the country to keep mothers and young children together during treatment, Via Avanta offers a place to heal while staying connected as a family. Women receive the care they need while also building life and parenting skills through shared responsibilities — from caring for their children to participating in community life at the residence. All within an environment grounded in safety, dignity, and mutual respect. Learn More

Project 50, operated by JWCH Medical Clinic, is a residential substance use treatment program for people experiencing homelessness in downtown LA. What began as a pilot to house the most medically vulnerable has grown into a county-funded program serving up to 75 residents. Didi Hirsch provides on-site counseling as part of a broader care team offering housing, mental health support, and medical services — all in one place. While we don’t manage admissions to Project 50, we work alongside residents to build trust through consistent, low-barrier care. Services include one-on-one counseling, peer groups, case management, and support with housing, benefits, and long-term recovery. Learn More
